Proton can destroy any car company in Malaysia. Any.
I think Proton has the power to destroy any car company in Malaysia. Any.
Recently, they said they maybe re-badging a Nissan to replace the Perdana Executive. Edaran Tan Chong declined to comment. I think the Nissan distributor didn’t decline to comment. They were just speechless. It was a “oh shit” moment.
Think about it. Who’s gonna buy a Nissan, knowing that Proton MIGHT re-badge ONE of the models? Thus, cutting the resale value of the original model by half?
Let’s say Benz CEO’s son bullies Proton CEO’s son. Proton’s son complains to dad. Next day, Proton CEO announce, “We are considering to re-badge ONE of the Benz models, unless Benz CEO’s son apologize to my son!”
It doesn’t matter whether Benz allows such re-badging. What the consumers hear is, oh shit, if I get a Benz C-class now, in 2 months time, Proton might launch a Proton Hang Lekir model that costs half. Nobody will ever buy Benz, and Benz can close shop immediately. Unless, of course, Benz CEO’s son apologize to Proton CEO’s son, and give him a Benz to befriend Proton…
so that Benz can ask Proton to announce: “We are considering to re-badge ONE of the BMWs!”
